The project (Fondecyt Regular 1250570) compares experiences of publicly and communally managed care in Chile and Spain. Using feminist ethnography, we study how the state can facilitate aging within the community. This Chile–Spain dialogue aims to contribute to the National Support and Care System (Chile Cuida), recognizing public management of community care as a social and political innovation in the face of the longevity revolution.
The objectives are:
1. To document the social, political, and economic organizational models of care for older adults in Chile and Spain.
2. To ethnographically document public-community management initiatives aimed at addressing the care needs of older adults in both countries.
3. To generate an assessment of the public management of community care for older adults that will serve as input for the design and implementation of the National Support and Care System (SNAC) in Chile.
The principal investigator is Herminia Gonzálvez Torralbo, and MICARE researcher Francisca Ortiz is participating in the project.
