Research

Description

This project analyzes the relationship between tourism and community care in the Eastern region of Uruguay, specifically in the departments of Rocha and Maldonado. It departs from a critique of the dominant view of tourism  as an economic driver, pointing out that this growth often overlooks social, cultural and care dynamics of local communities.

The research will focus on two local community-based experiences led by women who create support networks and drive social transformations in tourist contexts.

The project aims to understand how these practices reshape the social fabric and connect with public policies in order to identify sustainable strategies that integrate tourism and caring, fostering social, gender and environmental justice.

The project includes the participation of Florencia Picasso.
