Promoting Self-Determination Among Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Higher Education Settings

Description

The overall objective of the Fondecyt Regular project is to promote the development of self-determination skills among students with autism enrolled in higher education institutions, by understanding their educational needs in this area and encouraging their participation in a self-determination training program based on the components of the Theory of Causal Agency (TCA), which will contribute to improving their quality of life.

“This project addresses the growing need to provide support in various areas—specifically, in self-determination—to students with autism in higher education. This is a significant population that has grown in recent years and is accessing higher education. It is also consistent with all guidelines regarding the accommodations they may need and guidelines for the enforcement of the rights of people with disabilities,” comments Vanessa Vega, principal investigator, academic, and director of Inclusion at PUCV.

MICARE researchers are also participating: Izaskun Álvarez, Miguel Roselló, and Herbet Spencer.
